Samson's Secret Bio & Guestbook

May 29, 2023

You found Samson’s secret page. He’s a man about town so I shouldn’t be too surprised. Feel free to leave a comment with a Sammy story, introduce yourself if you'd like. I moved to Rudgate in October 2022, just starting to meet neighbors!

My name is Lauren and I got my cat Samson here in 2017, when he was 2 or 3 years old (Sam is now 8 or 9 as of 2023). A friend's parents were moving states that same day and had no plan for where Samson would go (that's been his name forever as far as I know). They thought he would be fine, because he was used to the outdoors as an indoor/outdoor cat. I had met him once before outside their house and he was very friendly and I knew he deserved better than abandonment, so I took him in that day on a whim. My literal best impulsive decision.

I had only had indoor cats until then but Sam was an adult and set in his ways. I couldn't keep the boy contained, figuratively and literally, he always manages to escape if kept inside too long. So I anxiously learned to trust him being outside and navigating the neighborhood. And he's come back every time for 7 years! He's pretty cautious of cars and formidable critters, although I feel bad for his casualties. But alas, it's his nature. No one enjoys a nice day like Sammy does. He'll even follow me on walks. I'm not sure if that was trained before I got him or what.

As the dirtball guy I got him from helped me crate Sam up, he told me he was born into a "dog hoarder's house". He likes dogs from it actually, especially taking on puppy apprentices and teaching them to hunt critters. He'll take a cat ally as well, if they can get past his bad cat manners... he approaches them more doglike than most, sniffing butts and such. But humans are really where it's at for Samson. I'd love to say that he loves me the most, he certainly likes me a lot, but he's met an incredible amount of people in his neighborhood walks. He's a man of the people and holds no loyalty to any one person. I respect that. I've accepted that I have so little control over this guy, I'm just lucky that he happens to be calm, kind, brave, and super smart.
